The Progressive Rock Anthology
The Original Instrumental Demo
Created and released through a bootleg fusion of the East Coast collectors’ market and underground tape-trading scene, the original Ro’Edyne Cycle demo remains a peculiar musical oddity. Its production history is now largely a matter of loss, debate, conjecture, and sustained fan scrutiny.

The Ro’Edyne Cycle
Original Instrumental Demo
[1977]
The Instrumental Demo that would become the Ro’Edyne Cycle EP. This project was a mixture of Studio recordings, remixed and altered orchestral stock footage which was then sampled and spliced into layered guitar, bass, drums and vocal FX.
Very little technical information exists regarding the making of this demo. The Original Master has been lost since the mid 80s.
Produced during the summer of 1977, the recording is best understood as an experimental limited release assembled from the contributions of various studio musicians across several days and weeks of recording, mixing, and reconstruction. Much of its orchestral foundation was drawn from discarded commercial sessions, unused film-score passages, alternate takes, rejected recordings, and other pieces of professional studio material that had never been intended to form a single composition. These fragments were subsequently cut apart, rearranged, layered with newly recorded bass, guitar, drums, and vocal effects, and further altered through early synthesizers, tape sampling, speed manipulation, and physical splicing. The resulting demo was neither a conventional studio recording nor a straightforward compilation, but a composite work assembled from the remains of several unrelated productions.
No complete session ledger is known to survive, and the identities of several contributing musicians remain disputed. Accounts differ regarding which passages were recorded specifically for The Ro’Edyne Cycle, which originated in abandoned professional sessions, and how extensively the surviving material was altered during its original construction. The master recording is believed to have been lost by the middle of the 1980s, leaving later cassette transfers and privately circulated copies as the principal sources for preservation. Consequently, several audible details—including abrupt transitions, changes in recording quality, and unusual instrumental passages—have become subjects of debate among collectors attempting to reconstruct the demo’s original assembly.
